Chair and folding stool made in oak, cotton & hemp rope.
Through this project I established a connection between life at sea and a dynamic piece of furniture. The chair embodies freedom of movement, yet keeps you caged from your surroundings. Every part of it is crucial and has a purpose, just like every rope or piece of canvas does on a boat. The weight of the body acts as the wind filling the sails, distributing tension through the ropes and onto the wooden structure, the hull and foundation of the piece.
Months later, and after finishing the chair shown above, I picked up some leftover pieces and decided to let intuition become the driving force in a process were only resources were limited. I was guided by the parts I had, the thickness of the raw material, the maximum length I was able to save. During this next phase, I let material and form lead me into an unpictured concept, developed throught the phisicality of its components. This small folding stool seen below was the result.
