Finding The Grain
2018
Set of three lighting pieces carved in cherry.
A long experimental process of “thinking-through-making” ending up in a set of three hand-carved lighting pieces. Their grain accentuates their weight, while the function remains hidden. Once the lights are out the volume disappears, yet from within the structure, a warm glow through the carved surfaces reveals that the apparent solidity was just an illusion. Both in bright and dark scenarios, their fragile thinness can be experienced through touch, and the sound our hands produce when passed over their texture.
